As a small business, or any business, it’s important to keep your website’s content current. An easy way to do this is blogging. But if the idea of coming up with ideas doesn’t sound super fun — Ironistic is here to help. Read on for some stellar starting points.
It’s always important to look into the keyword and search data to see how you can optimize your website with strong blogs, but another great way to come up with blog topics is to sit down with whomever answers your phones or greets people as they walk through your door.
Talk to your sales team about their conversations with potential clients/customers. What questions do these prospects ask? What are they looking for? What need are they trying to fill or what pain point do they want you to solve? How do they communicate with you?
Jot down answers to those questions, and I bet you have a dozen ideas for blog posts right there.
First, I’d suggest creating a strategy so that you can plan out not just one blog post, but several. You’ll want to prevent your website from going stale and out-of- date. With a strategy, you can frame up things like how often to post, how much content, types of images, and then define ways to come up with ideas.
If you are looking for inspiration, the easiest way is to check out the latest trends on Twitter as a starting point. Look at what’s trending and if you’d like, embed some popular posts in your blog with how it relates to your business.
Maybe you are looking to generate leads via SEO. I’d look at Google’s Keywords Planner and Google Trends. Find the most popular keywords related to your business’s products and services.
When coming up with blog posts for your small business, the most important thing is to provide some sort of value to your audience. Answer commonly asked questions, discuss recent related events, share other popular industry news, generate discussions by asking questions of your customers, and share your success stories and customer reviews. All of these prove interesting without feeling like spam. Happy Blogging.
Small businesses should blog consistently. When you provide new, pertinent, interesting content to your readers, they want to come back, and that increases the likelihood of future sales. Take a look at some of the FAQ’s that the company receives and write blogs about them. Profile employees, customers, or charities. Throughout the year, give updates on what’s happening with your company over the next 30 days and a recap of what happened over the past 30.
Looking at what is currently being posted in your market is a great way to get ideas. One blog post feed that I watch is actually through Pinterest. With some tools, I can see which blog posts are performing well by seeing how many times posts are being re-pinned. You can search for pretty specific terms that might apply to your business, see what the high performers are, and try to create something similar.
Your blog is a great marketing tool to keep your customers/users engaged and informed. I recommend writing about topics that engage your audience and encourage them to write comments or explore your site more.
For example, if you are an eCommerce site you can write about new items you are selling, or special features about an item you sell (these both can have a CTA so users learn more/purchase). You can also write about events you are attending (this can be a review or you can encourage users to attend/meet you).
When coming up with small business blog ideas, it’s important to complete keyword research starting with some of the services your business might provide. From there, you can dive into opportunities that might arise from that research that you could use for a blog post.
