Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement that is celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving every year by organizations around the world. This year, the holiday will be recognized on December 1st, and companies can use the hashtag #GivingTuesday once again to create brand awareness while supporting their favorite causes. Check out our favorite past Giving Tuesday campaigns for some inspiration!
I don’t have any specific examples, but I do have some tricks of the trade to ensure that your business’s Giving Tuesday campaign is successful.
1. Prepare for the campaign; “wing-ing” it will not be as successful
2. Stay consistent with your messaging – use the same or similar photos and videos
3. Try to recruit a matching donor, or two
4. Use the variety of outlets available to you – email, social media, print, etc.
5. Start promoting a few days prior
6. Build relationships throughout the campaign by creating a story
7. Follow up by sharing your success with your donors and followers.
A few years back, my old company kicked off Giving Tuesday with a 12 days of Giving campaign, celebrating the holiday season and promoting different topics each day. It was the Institute of Medicine, so it was all health-related, but the different graphics and insights to show what you’d be supporting based on research were really clever!
My favorite Giving Tuesday campaign is the one we helped the ASYMCA with a few years ago. We helped create custom social media profile images as well as campaign images to share leading up to Giving Tuesday. We shared stories and testimonials from military families who have benefitted from services provided by the ASYMCA.
Mary’s Center always does a great job with their Giving Tuesday campaigns! Videos highlighting their mission really help to drive their cause home. It is also super easy to share them across social media and use those platforms to promote the message!!
We have a non-profit art group here in Steamboat called Young Bloods Collective. They take donations for Giving Tuesday so they can show more art and performances throughout the year.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation – #Unselfie – How are you giving?
PayPal – Great instructions, easy to donate, and they add 1% to your donation
WaterAid – Be an “everyday hero”
World Vision – Partnering with Thirty-One Gifts to give Hope Kits to a woman or girl in need. Make a donation or have a “kit building” party.
