5 Ways to be a Successful Digital Agency Intern

Internship positions provide a great experience to really narrow down that niche specialty in the digital agency world that is most appealing to you. Here are some simple yet important tips on how to be a successful digital agency intern that will prepare you for a future career in the field of digital marketing! 

Be professional.

This means looking and acting the part! Make sure you know what attire is appropriate for the job, and either meet or exceed that standard. In a situation where a meeting is being held virtually, have a clear background behind you with no distractions, and try to keep down outside noises. When emailing or messaging a co-worker, always be polite and DO NOT treat them as one of your friends that you send 500 messages to a day. Finally, don’t forget your manners! This is something simple that can go a long way since you never really know who is listening or watching.

Be punctual.

Follow up and follow through. Keep busy with whatever work your employer gives you, but don’t overwhelm yourself. Check your emails, and respond to employees or customers in an appropriate fashion. Stay as organized as possible by using a timeline or a schedule so that you can stay on top of things. Do what you are supposed to do, when you are supposed to do it, in order to avoid making extra work for other people.

Be honest, but have a filter.

Obviously, as previously stated, you want to be as professional as possible. All the while, be yourself and have your own personal preferences. If there is something that is bothering you, speak up about it, but not to the point where it is rude.

When in doubt, ask questions!

After all, you are still an intern and don’t know the answers to everything, or know how to do everything… yet. But seriously, if there is something you have a question about, do not be shy to ask a coworker or supervisor! What’s the worst that could happen?!

Be a sponge.

Absorb as much information as you can while you’re in the office or working remotely. The digital world is constantly changing so there’s always something new to learn in the industry, from the people around you and the tasks that you are doing. Hopefully, you are part of an internship that is relevant to the career field that you want to pursue, so obtaining as much knowledge as you can is a major key to success!
